Recent studies show that approximately 60 to 70 percent of local races, such as school boards, city councils, and county offices, have only one candidate on the ballot. At the state level, around 30 to 35 percent of legislative races are uncontested. When combined, these figures suggest that roughly 55 to 60 percent of state and local elections offer voters no choice of candidate. Consider stepping up to run for local office and help ensure that voters have a real choice at the ballot box.
